Field Trip: B.F. Clyde's Cider Mill

Apples, apples, apples

Well actually just apple cider!

I am so happy we are currently stationed in Connecticut (my home state!) because I love the fall in New England. Really what is better than changing leaves, cool weather and apple products?

Of course there are a ton of apple orchards around where we live but we are also lucky enough to have the oldest steam powered cider mill in the United States only ten minutes from our house! B.F. Clyde's Cider Mill started making super yummy apple cider in 1881 and still makes the best around.I decided to pack up the family, including the snotty child (first cold of the season, eww) and head over to the cider mill this morning and boy am I happy we did. Maddie was enthralled with the entire apple pressing process. She begged us to hang out in the old building and watch the machine press gallons of apple juice. The whole process is really awesome to watch and even better it smells amazing! I am sure we will be headed back to the cider mill soon to refill on cider and apple wine. Oh yes, apple wine!

With our fill of apple cider, apple doughnuts and a giant jar of apple butter it was time to head home! Do you have any great local spots by you that your family enjoys visiting regularly?

Ohhhh, I am SO jealous. I've lived/grown up in Southern CA and one thing that I've ALWAYS pined for is to have a real change of seasons. Fall is just my absolute favorite but how I would LOVE to see the leaves really change color, have cooler weather, ect. Anyway, I'm jealous. Ha! We're hitting up an apple orchard next month and I'm so excited. Apple doughnuts sound delish!

We are looking for a place to go here in Colorado. Fall is in the air and I'm wanting to make some applesauce. We have apple orchards but, unfortunately, no mills that I know of. I miss being in MI with its abundance of mills.

Our fall really hasn't started yet. But I am glad you reminded me to get B to the apple orchard. I forget about it. Oh, and they have wonderful donuts! Thanks for the reminder. Oh, and mine is a huge snot. Just whisked her out of Target screaming at the top of her lungs. Nice.

Georgine- ewwys at our house! Madison came down with the first cold of the season in our house. Although she sounds awfully cute when she is all congested and nasally! haha Hope you and B have fun at the orchard!

I hope Miss Mad is feeling better very soon. I almost bought cider at Holmberg's yesterday, but it was like $5 a gallon, and we have some delicious cider cheaper at the grocery store here. One thing that always bugs me is that some stores call plain apple juice "apple cider." Um, I went to BF's as a tot, and I distinctly remember the difference! Glad you guys had fun! When JL is a bit older, we'll have to take them together! :)
