The Art Lesson

We recently borrowed The Art Lesson (Paperstar Book) by Tomie dePaola from the library and I fell in love! What an adorable story about following your own path! Maddie loves her 'art time' as she calls it and thought it would be perfect to make our own mini art easels to display all of her beautiful art work!
With 5 popsicle sticks a two inch piece of pipe cleaner and a bit of glue you can make some too! To start glue two popsicle sticks on top of each other for the tray portion of the easel. As the tray dries glue two more popsicle sticks in a V shape with a bit of glue too. Now glue the 2-inch piece of pipe cleaner to the fifth popsicle stick with about an inch sticking off the top. (See the picture above) For the final assembly it is probably best to use a hot glue gun. You will glue the tray (the two sticks glued on top of each other) to the V shape. Then affix the bit of pipe cleaner sticking out to the back of the V shape. Now bend the back leg of the easel into place. Voila!

Maddie is still a bit young to assemble the easels but she loves that she can now display mini masterpieces all over the house! I gave her a few blank postcards to decorate as she wished and since then we have had a steady rotation of artwork!
