The Number Train

Maddie has had numbers one through ten mastered for quite a while now but that's when things tend to go downhill. In an effort to make counting fun I set to work this weekend making The Number Train.

I decided to go ahead and make the train useful in the future too so it contains the numbers 1 through 20 and then 25 through 100 counting by fives. For now we will be working with numbers 1 through 20 but eventually we will work on counting by fives and tens.

Today we started simple by working with numbers 1 through 10. For our first activity I mixed up the numbers cars and Maddie had to put them back in the correct order.

Maddie was impressed with how long her train was! I am sure once we start counting to 20 it will be that much more impressive!

For our next activity I added a few cars to the train in random order. I asked Maddie to use her bucket of 'coal' to fill up each car. Having the numbers out of order encourages number recognition rather than memorization which is one of our current struggles.

If you are interested in The Number Train I do have the PDF file available for sale on my right side bar. There is a PayPal button to purchase the 19 page file for $3 in either black and white or color. I chose to print our train out in black and white and save on a bit of ink! If you do order the file I will e-mail it to you after I receive your PayPal payment. If you would like more numbers added to your train please let me know and I can customize a file for you! I can also add math symbols to the cars too! Thanks!
