Snow Dough

It was play dough makin' time at our house and we made snow dough this time around!

This is the recipe I use which I originally found on The Idea Room. The original recipe is for Pumpkin Spice Play Dough so some alterations have been made.

2 cups water
2 TBSP vegetable oil
1 cup salt
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 cups flour
vanilla extract*
glitter**

Combine all ingredients in large pan on stove. Over medium heat, stir until most of the lumps disappear and it thickens up to a dough-like consistency. Dump out the dough onto your counter top and knead the dough until nice a smooth. Make sure the dough is cooled before handing it over to the kiddlets!

*I probably used about 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract and our dough smells nothing like vanilla so add as necessary!
** Madison added the glitter as I was mixing it all together in the pan- add until it is sparkly enough!

Ohhh Sparkly!

After the dough was cooled I set Madison up with a tray of snowman making materials {buttons, beads, bells, popsicle sticks, pipecleaners & ribbon} and the sparkly dough.

She set right to work making snowmen, snowladies, snowbabies, snow angels and snow reindeer!

What a work of art!

And I have to say a big THANK YOU! to The Shafer Family for pointing me in the direction of only THE BEST trays ever! Messes no more!

First of all, thanks for the shout out! I am so, so happy that you and Maddie like them!!! Seriously, I get SO much use out of them and they clean up easily and they contain messes... Yay!

And second of all, we're set to make some homemade playdoh this week on our Advent calendar. It is something I have NEVER before attempted and I'm seriously nervous about it! Yours turned out SO awesome. I am totally trying this recipe. A while back, I Googled recipes and got like, 4 bajillion hits. Lol.

Anyway, love the snowpeople!! Wish me luck on my own dough making journey :)

That is a really great idea. I work with school-age kids and I think they would love doing that. Thank you!

I'm definitely bookmarking this recipe! I decided to save all of the snow activities that I've found for January. I'll let you know how it comes out!

I just love Maddie's creations - and I am sure that homemade playdoh just added to the fun. It reminded me to get more creative with playdoh and add those extra blings to it.

I don't exactly know how I came across your website, but I am so glad I did! You have some great ideas! I just made this snow dough, and I love it! I especially love the glitter. Although I want to ask does it matter what kind of glitter you use? Or is all glitter the same? I'm not very familiar with the craft world. Anyway, for my very first ever batch of home made play dough, i think it turned out great! Thank you so much, I know my daughter will love playing with this!
