Music and Dance

Another great book brought us a wonderful afternoon activity.

Five Nice Mice

By: Chisato Tashiro

This story is originally written in Japanese and has beautiful illustrations to accompany it.

On a lovely night in the city, five mice hear music in the distance. What can this wonderful sound be? They follow the music to find a fabulous frog concert in the park. But mice are not allowed!

Read along to find out what the mice do to make music of their own and maybe even a few new friends along the way.

In the story the mice decide to make their own musical instruments with whatever they can find so this weekend Maddie took it upon herself to make her own musical instruments! Sunday night we spent the evening banging on pots and pans from her play kitchen.

And while we are talking about great book finds Maddie also borrowed a wonderful book full of different types of dance.

A Dictionary of Dance

By: Liz Murphy

This is a wonderful A to Z or Arabesque to Zones book about dancing. Every letter features a dancing term or style with a simple enough definition that was even for Maddie. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the characters illustrate each dancing term beautifully! If you have an aspiring dancer at home Maddie gives this two thumbs up!
