Mom Tips
I don't know about your little ones but Maddie wants to eat her food as soon as it touches the plate, which generally means that it is still super hot. I do have a solution for soup though! I always drop an ice cube into any broth based soup which helps it cool right down and makes just enough broth for dipping crackers.
Maddie is also a huge fan of Ramen noodles which I don't mind feeding her when I do the ice cube trick because it really helps water down the broth ( I only use half the seasoning packet too). I also like to add a handful of frozen mixed veggies to the noodles when they are cooking. It works out perfectly because both the noodles and the veggies need to cook for 3 minutes. Who doesn't like to sneak in an extra serving of veggies?!

The ice cube trick is a good idea! My oldest understands to wait but my middle son just wants to dive right in! =) I also like your idea of adding the mixed veggies.
