Caffeine makes a great gift

In honor of November, and Thanksgiving and one of Madison's three teachers leaving this month we decided to do a small 'Thankful' gift for her great teachers.

I picked up a few $5 Dunkin Donuts gift cards and they so graciously also gave me three empty cups and lids to gift the cards in.

Madison wrote a few simple notes to each of her teachers saying that she is thankful for them.

Then we filled the cups with some chocolate and the gift cards.

Simple. Cute. Chocolate. Caffeine. All is GOOD.

Painted Pumpkins

Every single year without fail Madison decides she wants some crazy elaborate pumpkin carved which isn't that big of a deal I suppose but the problem is she refuses to help because its 'grooooooosssss'. Which means dear old mom gets to gut, clean and carve the pumpkin. Times 2. You know what with the second kid wandering around the house now. This year I put my foot down and said no pumpkin guts for us.

I covered the kitchen table with craft paper and let the kids go wild with some acrylic paints on their pumpkins and dare I say I love them so much more than carved pumpkins. No aching hand for me and no rotten pumpkins the day after they get carved. Winning.

Earlier in the week I let Zoey paint for the first time so she was super excited to discover she would get to do it again and on a giant pumpkin for that matter. Maddie worked for a good hour or so painting not one, not two but three different princesses on her pumpkin.

Minimal mess and happy kids!

Wordless(ish) Wednesday- Pink Edition

In support of a fellow crewmembers wife we woke the girls bright and early Saturday and braved the chilly water down at the Virginia Beach waterfront for the 2012 Komen Tidewater Race for the Cure.

Gold medal Olympian Francena McCorory stopped by for the race

Life. Lately.

I fell off the blogging band wagon but I think I'm back. I miss it. My life is ridiculously crazy and busy but I think I may have a system now that fits Funny Days in too. So here is a quick catch-up on our life lately.

B's schedule at work is getting busier so I am trying to keep the kids busy so they don't notice as much. Zoey has come to LOVE her weekly playgroup at the library.

We decided it was officially time to switch rooms. Again. Both the girls are sleeping in the small room leaving us again with a big playroom. It seems to be working out well. So far.

Maddie joined Girl Scouts this year and is a Daisy. It's killing me to see her growing up so fast!

And this one! She is growing in leaps and bounds and keeps me so very busy during the day.

I have become slightly obsessed with these Baby Lit books.

Like I said, when did my BABY turn into this kid?

Maddie decided to give soccer a try this year and she is awesome!

Seriously?!?! Teenager wanna be.

This past Saturday we dressed in our best PINK for the Susan G Komen Tidewater Race for the Cure.

8 Years

Brandon and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary this past Friday and I can say without a doubting am just as head over heels in love today as I was the day we said "I do".

Living a few states away from the nearest babysitter and having 2 young kids means being creative for our anniversary and enjoying the little things.

I woke up to a tear inducing card and a beautiful pair of diamond earrings. Better yet? I woke to the wonderful scent of freshly brewing coffee. Now that's love!

I had no clue what to get B for our anniversary so I went with super cheesy and gifted him with a date night in. At home. After the kids went to bed.

A lilac candle (the flower for 8 years!), a box of chocolates, his favorite wine and some massage oils accompanied a cute little invitation for a romantic evening of some favorite foods inspired by our favorite restaurant in Connecticut and a viewing of The Avengers. We keep it real.

Unfortunately the dinner we made sucked so we ordered Chinese takeout. Then while watching the movie I started coming down with a cold. Our romantic date night turned into watching a movie with takeout and me sniffling and blowing my nose all night.

Truth be told it was perfect. We are that kind of couple- easy breezy, roll with the punches, it is what it is. And it was perfect.
